Basket Mill Machine — For Paint, Ink & Pigment Processing

The Basket Mill Machine is a highly efficient in-tank grinding and dispersing machine used in pigment processing and paint manufacturing. It consists of a motor connected to a vertical shaft fitted with blades. Grinding balls are added inside the grinding basket, which help improve the quality and smoothness of the pigment. As the shaft rotates, the blades create strong agitation — causing the grinding balls to move rapidly and break down pigment particles, reducing their size and enhancing the finish of the material.

The material is placed in a vessel below the shaft, where continuous mixing and grinding take place. A hydraulic system allows the shaft to move up and down, making it easier to load and unload material and achieving efficient mixing. New Star Engineering Works manufactures 8 Basket Mill models — from SYM-11 (11 kW) to SYM-75 (75 kW) — to cover a wide range of production volumes and vessel sizes.

How It Works

  • Step 1: The motor drives the vertical shaft and disperser blades at high speed inside the grinding basket submerged in the material vessel.
  • Step 2: The blades create strong agitation inside the basket, causing the grinding balls to move rapidly and collide with pigment particles.
  • Step 3: The self-priming impeller draws fresh material continuously into the basket for grinding and circulates it back into the vessel.
  • Step 4: The centrifugal force of the pump prevents grinding media from backflowing out of the basket, keeping beads contained during operation.
  • Step 5: The hydraulic lift raises and lowers the basket for easy material loading, color changeover, and discharge without stopping production.
